All to play for in the men's semifinals
Watch out! Brazil’s men are still on course to win a medal at the Gstaad Major as big serving Evandro and partner Pedro Solberg battled back from a set down to beat Dutch duo Nummerdor/Varenhorst in a classic quarterfinal.
Earlier in the day reigning Gstaad Major and world champions Alison/Bruno were sent tumbling out of the tournament, losing to fellow Brazilians Álvaro/Felipe. However, they could not take that momentum with them into their quarterfinal match as Americans Lucena/Dalhausser secured an easy 21-13, 21-17 win.
smart Major Hamburg winners Lucena/Dalhausser were hoping for an all-American semifinal but Latvians Samoilovs/Smedins had other ideas and marched into the last four. The Lion King and his teammate go in search of the gold they missed out on last year when finishing second.
The one remaining quarterfinal match was an all-European affair and Spain’s Herrera/Gavira got the job done in straight sets against Italians Ranghieri/Carambula.
So, after an exhausting day’s play on the sand, here’s what the semifinal line-up looks like:
Lucena/Dalhausser v Samoilovs/Smedins
Herrera/Gavira v Pedro Solberg/Evandro
It promises to be yet another super Sunday tomorrow with the semifinals, bronze medal and gold medal matches all taking place on Center Court. And don’t forget every game will be shown on our live stream so don’t miss out!
