Last four in touching distance
The quarterfinal line-up for the men is now complete and before we lay our heads down to sleep tonight we will know our semifinalists at the Gstaad Major!
There were plenty of talking points in the last 16 matches – including the exit of reigning champions Alison/Bruno.
Yesterday we marveled at the success of Canadian duo Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk – the pair were the only team not to drop a set so far in the competition – but the Poreč Major bronze medalists were beaten in straight sets by Italians Ranghieri/Carambula, who finished fourth here last year.
One of the stories of the week was the progress of country quota lucky losers Guto/Saymon and the Crabb brothers – but both teams’ luck finally ran out today. The Brazilians lost to Spain’s Herrera/Gavira, and the Americans were beaten by countrymen Gibb/Patterson.
Last year’s silver medalists Samoilovs/Smedins saw off the challenge of Dutch duo Brouwer/Meeuwsen, while the final Swiss challenge came to an end on an absolutely packed Center Court as Brazil’s Evandro/Solberg powered their way past Beeler/Strasser.
There is Dutch representation in the last eight, though. Nummerdor/Varenhorst came through a three-set thriller against Mexico’s Virgen/Ontiveros.
So, what does the quarterfinal line-up look like? It looks like this!
Samoilovs/Smedins v Gibb/Patterson
Alvaro/Filipe v Lucena/Dalhausser
Ranghieri/Carambula v Herrera/Gavira
Evandro/Solberg v Nummerdor/Varenhorst
The quarterfinals kick off at 18:00 CET and you can watch all four matches live on our live stream. Just click here!
