Gstaad Major mountains kings of 2015 Alison/Bruno are OUT of the competition following a shock defeat to fellow countrymen Álvaro Filho and Vitor Felipe.

Last week’s Poreč Major champions faced an uphill battle after losing the first set 27-25.

And although they rallied to win the second set 21-16, it was their lesser-known opponents who celebrated a place in the quarterfinals in one of the biggest upsets of the week so far.

Álvaro/Filipe have finished 17th in each of their last two Swatch Major Series tournaments, in Hamburg and Poreč, but now they will be aiming to reach only their second semifinal of the season.

Their reward for this stunning victory is a match against American smart Major Hamburg winners Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser.

The quarterfinal line-up, which kicks off tonight after the women’s final – is beginning to take shape. Another American team, Gibb/Patterson booked their place in the last eight and they will take on fellow Olympians Samoilovs/Smedins of Latvia.
