Pools for Copacabana decided in the mountains
Saturday is a big, big day at the Gstaad Major for beach volleyball.
It’s what all the players have been waiting for…the draw for the Olympic pools will be made 1,000 meters above sea level here in the Swiss Alps.
And our message is simple: At 20:00 CET don’t go anywhere!
All eyes across the globe will be transfixed on this alpine paradise as the teams who have given their all to qualify for the Copacabana will learn of their fate. Who will be playing who? Well, we’re going to find out on Saturday night!
The draw is sure to capture the imagination of the players, too. Did you know 32 of the 48 teams who will fly to Brazil have competed at the Gstaad Major? Further strengthening the reputation of this wonderful week here in the Alps.
The draw process is easy enough to understand: The 24 teams in each gender will be split into six groups of four. The seedings have already been decided, with the top six teams – based on their ranking points – placed into each pool. The remaining teams have also been seeded accordingly – but it remains to be seen in which group they will be placed into.
On Saturday we will give you more insight into how the draw will work – just make sure you tune into what promises to be a super Saturday with the women’s final and the men’s quarterfinals taking place. You really should spend the whole day with us!
Of course we’ll have live coverage of the draws and all the matches on our website and social media channels.
