Challenge set for lucky losers
They were out, they were in, and now they’re here to stay…for three more games at least!
It’s already been a rollercoaster two days in the Alps for Brazilians Guto/Saymon at the Gstaad Major. Yesterday they lost their country quota match but earned a lucky loser reprieve to enter qualification.
And today the talented young samba stars, who reached the quarterfinals at the Poreč Major last week, are in the Pool Play after a hugely impressive two-set victory over Lithuanians Kazdailis/Rumsevicius. Oh, and it only took them 31 minutes…
The victory means they join fellow Brazilians – and last year’s Gstaad Major winners and last week’s Poreč Major winners – Alison/Bruno in the main draw, as well as Pedro Solberg/Evandro and Álvaro Filho/Vitor Felipe. The question now is can Guto/Saymon go on and create history? No team has lost a country quota match and gone on to win a tournament in FIVB history! There’s a challenge for you boys!
The same can be said of the Crabb brothers Taylor and Trevor, who also booked a Pool Play place by overcoming Austria’s Ermacora/Pristauz-Telsnigg on Wednesday.
The men’s main draw takes place later today and we’ll give you a full run-down of all the pools in our evening update.
In the meantime, grab a drink and settle down in front of our live stream and catch the second round of women’s Pool Play matches. Enjoy!
