If you’re a beach volleyball fan you’ll be spoilt for choice on Wednesday with no less than 40 matches to get your heart racing at the Gstaad Major.

With so much great entertainment on offer in the Alps, we don’t want you to miss the best of the action so here’s our little guide to five matches on day two here in Switzerland.

Who? Walsh/Ross v Fendrick/Sweat
When? 9am
Where? Court 4
Why? Two American Olympic hopes face off on the sand in a crucial opening match in Pool B. Who will hold the bragging rights?

Who? Ludwig/Walkenhorst v Laboureur/Sude
When? 10am
Where? Court 2
Why? The German winners of last week’s Poreč Major take on their rivals and training partners who have won three of their last four tournaments – and, don’t forget, they were also semifinalists in Croatia.

Who? Larissa/Talita v Juliana/Taiana Lima
When? 12 noon
Where? Court 2
Why? Last year’s Gstaad Major champions take on fellow Brazilians in another mouthwatering derby out on Court 2.

Who? Guto/Saymon v Kazdailis/Rumsevicius
When? 1pm
Where? Court 4
Why? The Lithuanians will be underdogs against the unpredictable Brazilians, but they lost their country quota match and are only back in the tournament as lucky losers.

Who? Zumkehr/Heidrich v Arvaniti/Karagkouni
When? 5pm
Where? Center Court
Why? The Swiss darlings take to Center Court in a bid for glory but they won’t have it all their own way against a Greek team who reached the last 16 in Poreč.
