Second chance for lucky losers

For a split second (okay, a good 30 minutes) we thought we had our first shock on our hands of the Gstaad Major 2016.

In the country quota matches in the men’s tournament Brazilian wonder kids Guto/Saymon lost to countrymen Oscar Brandao/Thiago – and they thought, like us, that they were out of the competition and that their involvement in the competition was over after just 36 minutes on the sand.

Luckily for them though, following the preliminary enquiry, they were not on the first plane back to Brazil – they were quickly ushered into the first qualification stage as lucky losers. They live to fight another day and take on Swiss outsiders Berta/Müller on Center Court at 16:00 CET today.

In total the men’s first round of qualification has 32 teams vying for victory and a place in the next round of qualifying.

The women’s second round of qualification is already under way as 16 teams battle it out for a place in the Pool Play.

Among them are Poreč Major heroes Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude, who face Switzerland’s Calouri/Steinemann on Center Court at 14:00 CET.

We’ll give you a full update of all the action from today’s qualification throughout the day so stay tuned to our social media channels and website for all the results, draws and details.
