Swatch Gstaad Major bronze medalist Paolo Nicolai smashed his way into the beach volleyball record books by recording the fastest serve in history during the tournament in the Alps.

During the bronze medal match, Paolo blasted a serve of 119 kph towards opponents Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb. The service beat the previous record of 114 kph, registered by Russian Igor Kolodinsky at the Italian Open in 2008.

Olympic silver medalist Nicolai, with teammate Daniele Lupo, went onto beat Gibb/Crabb in the match to take their second Major Series medal of the season following their silver in Fort Lauderdale.

Nice work Nicolai! Vienna beware!
