Anders Mol and Christian Sørum battle into the quarterfinals
Two years ago, two fresh-faced Norwegians sprung onto the scene with a run to Klagenfurt Major quarterfinals. Fast-forward to 2018 and the same fresh-faced youngsters have made it to their second Major Series quarterfinal.
Now Anders Mol and Christian Sørum are eyeing a cowbell after they dumped out the last remaining Brazilian pairing of Bruno Oscar Schmidt, the 2016 Olympic champion, and Pedro Solberg Salgado.
While the defeat for the South Americans means for the first time in Gstaad history that no Brazilian team will be in the semifinals, it was a result to savor for the Scandinavians.
“We were talking about reaching the last eight in Klagenfurt at the dinner the other night and now this is an opportunity for us to go one step better,” said Anders after the thrilling three-set triumph.
“In Klagenfurt we finished fifth in our first tournament playing together and for sure we want to go beyond that here… and now we’re dreaming of a cowbell.
“We’re happy to knock the Brazilians out – they have too many cowbells and they don’t even need them in Brazil!
“We’re still learning, we’re only 21 and 22, and we have so much still to learn. We want to be able to perform at the high level. In front of such a big crowd, to come through such a tough match is really positive.”
