Injury rules out Krattiger but Nico finds a new partner
Marco Krattiger will not be playing the Swatch Major Gstaad.
The 23-year-old blocker had hoped to make a recovery from a thigh injury to partner Nico Beeler at the Swiss duo’s home tournament – but despite intensive treatment and physiotherapy, the Swiss blocker will not risk further injury at the Major in the mountains.
“So bummed to miss this year’s Gstaad Major,” Marco wrote on Instagram. “Still good to see the improvement we do every day. Big thanks to our medical staff!”

His teammate Beeler will take his place in the main draw alongside Quentin Métral. 22-year-old Quentin is currently playing in the four-star event in Espinho with regular partner Simon Hagenbuch. This season Métral and Hagenbuch have finished fifth in two World Tour tournaments.
“I am disappointed that Marco and I cannot play the highlight of the year together,” Nico said. “I am very happy that Marco is doing better and that we can be together on court next week at the European Championships and can try to fully attack.
“I'm happy to be playing with Quentin in his first major game and am happy to be able to play in front of this great crowd and all our friends and families at the top organized Gstaad Major. For me in every tournament I play, I want to achieve as much as I can.”
Métral has yet to play in a Beach Volleyball Major Series main draw but made one appearance in Gstaad at the 2016 Major, losing in the first round of qualification.
