Polish pair plotting Gstaad glory

Can Kantor/Losiak take home gold?

Polish pair Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak will aim to make it three wins on the spin against Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser in the Gstaad Major final.

The Poles have been in awesome form in Switzerland this week and booked their place in the final with a brilliant victory over Brazilians Alvaro Filho and Saymon Barbosa.

It’s the Europeans’ first Swatch Major Series final since they won silver in Stavanger in June 2015 and the duo go into the final with a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head record over their American opponents.

“You never know what’s going to happen in a gold medal match,” Losiak warned after their semifinal triumph. “You never know how it will go, but we will fight, hope and believe in winning gold.”

The last time the two sides met, the Poles beat Lucena/Dalhausser at the Swatch World Tour Finals in Toronto.

And Lucena knows just how much of a problem the Poles will pose in their quest to win gold.

“They’re one of the best offensive teams on the tour,” said the 37-year-old. “They serve tough and play great defence. They’re young, they run a great offense and it will be tough for us.”

Watch the final live on BeachStream at 3.05pm CET and don’t forget you can see every game from the tournament again on our on demand service.
