Brazilians gain revenge for Poreč defeat
Olympic champions Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt booked a last 16 meeting with Fort Lauderdale Major champions Alvaro Filho and Saymon Barbosa after beating Italians Lupo/Nicolai.
In a rematch of the Olympic final and the Poreč Major semifinal, the two teams went head-to-head after failing to win their pools.
And in a top quality match which would have befitted a game later in the tournament, it was the Brazilians that came out on top in straight sets, 21-16, 25-23 in 48 minutes.
Meanwhile Qatari duo Jefferson/Cherif made it into the last 16 with a superb 2-0 win over Canadians Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk. Their prize is a crack at last year’s Gstaad Major silver medalists Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena.
