Defending champs in command

Larissa/Talita continue good day for Brazil

Brazilians Larissa/Talita are on a mission to make history in mountains this week.

The pair are hunting a third successive Gstaad Major title following their wins in 2015 and 2016.

And the defense of their golden cowbells has started in typically efficient style, as the South Americans won  both of their pool play matches in Gstaad on Wednesday.

Their opening win saw them defeat Swiss starlets Laura Caluori and Elena Steinemann on Center Court 21-17, 21-16.

The experienced duo then secured their position at the top of Pool B with another win – but it wasn’t as straightforward as the pair would have hoped. Against Dutch girls Meppelink/van Gestel, Larissa/Talita went down 16-21 in the first set. But the Brazilians aren’t two-time Gstaad Major champs for nothing and they stormed back to take the second and third sets to maintain their unbeaten record on Swiss sand this week.

Their final match into the pool play takes place on side court 2 on Thursday at 10am CET against Bieneck/Schneider of Brazil.

Larissa/Talita weren’t the only tandem to win both of their pool play matches on Wednesday. Brazilians Agatha/Duda and Canadians Bansley/Wilkerson also made it two from two. Those two teams meet on Thursday to see who tops Pool C.

And Swiss stars Anouk Vergé -Dépré and Joana Heidrich also made it two from two as they saw off the challenge of Dutch pair Stubbe/Sinnema. No Swiss women’s team has won a pool in Gstaad since 2013…
