Hüberli/Betschart can’t wait for Gstaad

We want a golden cowbell!

Poreč Major semifinalists Tanja Hüberli and Nina Betschart are desperate to win a golden cowbell when they play in front of their home crowd in Gstaad next week.

The Swiss duo have been in sensational form on the sand this week in Croatia, reaching the last four 12 months after losing in the quarterfinals against Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst.

At the Poreč Major the pair earned a semifinal with an excellent victory over an in-form young team, Americans Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes.

And while the focus is definitely on Saturday’s semifinal against Czechs Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Slukova, they are looking forward to the Major in the mountains on home turf next week.

“We love playing in front of our home crowd, we have our friends and family there cheering and the atmosphere on the Center Court is amazing,” said Tanja. “It’s every Swiss player’s dream to win a golden cowbell in Gstaad.

“The organizers do such a good job and that feel like we are treated well. Plus I love Gstaad! The atmosphere in the village when you walk through is beautiful. I feel comfortable and feel at home in Gstaad.”

The pair were disappointed to exit the Gstaad Major at the first elimination stage last year but like Tanja, Nina is excited to hit the beach in the Alps.

“As Gstaad is a Swatch Major Series tournament every top team is there and everyone want to earn lots of points,” she said. “The level is the highest and you have to fight in every game. But like Tanja said we’re really looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd.”

The Gstaad Major kicks off next Tuesday and you can catch every match live on BeachStream.
